Life skills and health resource education

According to the 2025 Ashtabula County Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), only 30% of children in Ashtabula County demonstrated readiness for kindergarten — well below the Ohio average of 36.5%. Additionally, many residents rely on friends and family as their primary source of health information, highlighting a need for stronger health resource education throughout our community.

Healthy Ashtabula County is committed to improving life skills and health resource education through four key goals:

  • Improve kindergarten readiness — connecting families and early childhood professionals with tools and resources to prepare children for school success
  • Increase financial literacy — providing education through schools and community organizations to help break the cycle of generational poverty
  • Reduce home health hazards — educating residents about mold, lead paint, insects, and other household hazards
  • Increase health resource awareness — helping residents find and trust local health resources and information
